About the Program
There are times when police, fire, or ambulance need to get to you inside your home. What if you were unable to get to the door and it is locked. The only choice for public safety officials at that time is to break your door or a window to be able to get to you. Certain community members have medical conditions that make this situation more likely than others. Whether it is a serious medical condition or just decreased mobility, the chances are increased for some that this situation could present itself.
The Peace of Mind Program was designed to address this specific problem. The resident buys a small lockbox and it is placed somewhere outside of their home. To enter the lockbox there is a 4 digit code. This code is kept at the dispatch center is only released to Police, Fire, and Ambulance in an emergency situation.
How to Get Started
Andrew County Ambulance District is helping to manage this program. If you purchase a lockbox you can get the paperwork from the ambulance to submit the information to the Dispatch center. The information needed is as follows:
- Your address
- Location of the Lockbox
- Code to access the lockbox
Andrew County Ambulance District also has locks available for purchase. They will even help you install the lock and set the code up for you. Once you have the code it is your responsibility to make sure you keep a key in the lockbox to open your door. If you change locks, you need to remember to change keys inside the lockbox.
If at any time you wish to no longer participate in the program, remove the key from your lockbox and alert the Dispatch center that you no longer wish to participate.

Where did this Idea Come From?
We would like to thank Savannah resident Nancy Davis for bringing this idea to the community. Nancy spends time in Arizona and a program similar to this is run in Scottsdale. After several visits with the Ambulance District and the Sheriff’s Department, a plan was formulated and now the plan is moving forward. You may see Nancy sometime in the future as she feels this is a very important project for the community.
Thank you Nancy for all your hard work getting this program started!
